Four boys just returned from work: coat with newspaper wrinkled on chair; hat and rose tossed on the floor; tool bag spills its two hammers and single pincers; a bottle of wine on table, a glass, a plate with calzone, and the boys sit at the table. All turn toward Bacchus, standing at the window, who draws back the red curtain with his right hand. Grape leaves form his crown; a green mantle drapes over the shoulder of his lively, naked torso. All eyes on his; his only on two of theirs. Through the window cinder-block buildings burn; on the sill three very tiny men play boccie. | |
